The Rambling Branch

The Rambling Branch

What’s in a name?  Well, a lot.  Enough that when I was in high school, I actually wrote an entire persuasive essay arguing that God sees names as important.  (Take a look at the Bible, especially the Old Testament.  There’s a LOT encompassed in the meaning of names.)

I decided a long time ago that I wanted to start a blog.  The problem was that I couldn’t think of a name – as if it had to have a  catchy name – nor decide on the focus of my blog.  I enjoy food, but I’m not a food expert.  I like taking photos, but it seems everyone with a DSLR camera is now a photographer.  I’m a mom, but a lot of people are.  I read – or did read – but now I fall asleep when I sit too still. (See the previous sentence.)

Earlier this year I was at Women in the Word, and the name Rambling Branch came to me.  As a child of God, I’m a branch off the true Vine, and I love to ramble. Ah! Rambling Branch.  It kind of had a ring to it.  I also like that “rambling” has several meanings – spreading or winding irregularly in various directions; traveling from place to place; wandering. Somehow, using rambling in my blog name gave me freedom to not be required to focus on one topic.  Such mental hurdles.

So there it is.  Rambling Branch.  I plan to write about a variety of topics but relate most, if not all posts, back to my relationship with Christ.  Writing is therapeutic for me and helps me process.  I’ve found that my closest times with the Lord have come when I journal and spend time meditating on the Word through writing.  Thus, I’m starting this blog.   I really do think it will provide an outlet for me.  If anyone else reads it, that’s just a bonus!
